Frequently Asked Questions
AKD (alkyl ketene dimer) is a reactive internal sizing agent used in neutral and alkaline papermaking. It bonds with cellulose fibres to make paper and board resistant to water penetration, which is essential for packaging paper, cupstock and printing grades. Compared with rosin sizing, AKD works at neutral pH, allows the use of calcium carbonate fillers and gives a more permanent sizing effect.
The three grades differ mainly in active AKD content and reactivity, which affect sizing efficiency and curing speed. AKD 1895 is the highest-purity grade for demanding sizing applications, while AKD 1840 and 1865 are cost-effective choices for standard paper and board grades. Our technical team can recommend the right grade based on your base paper, filler system and machine speed — or run a comparison trial in our application lab.
Yes. We provide free 1–2 kg samples for laboratory evaluation, together with the technical data sheet (TDS) and guidance on dosing and application. For key projects our lab can also test with your own base paper and white water before you commit to a commercial order.
Minimum order quantity depends on the product and packaging — contact us with your target volume and we will confirm quickly. Standard products normally ship within days from Tianjin or Qingdao ports.
